FIMS Membership Options
FIMS offers a number of membership categories to cater for individuals, national associations, continental and regional groups as well as libraries and institutions that wish to access its vast resources. Therefore, FIMS offers membership in the following categories:
FIMS Individual membership
FIMS Individual membership is open to any health professional who:
- is in possession of a doctoral degree in medicine or a related science or
- has completed a FIMS approved course in Sports Medicine or
- has worked in the field of Sports Medicine for at least 5 years
If you fullfill any of these criteria, it is really easy to become a FIMS Individual member and receive the benefits immediately.
Option 1: Applying online to become a FIMS indivdual member immediately:
First, just confirm with your National Sports Medicine Association that you are not eligible for the FIMS National Association block membership option (see Option 2 below). If not, or you reside in a country where there is no National Sports Medicine Association, or where the National Sports Medicine Association has not yet decided to subscribe its members to FIMS as a group, then you can apply immediately using the on-line application and payment procedure.

Option 2: Becoming a FIMS individual member through a block subscription by your FIMS National Association membership:
You can also obtain FIMS individual membership status if you are an existing member of any FIMS National Association (click here to see list of all FIMS National Association members)provided your National Association has made use of the block membership option of FIMS. The application process for FIMS Individual Membership status has been granted to all National Association members, where such a National Association has decided to subscribe all its members or a large subgroup of its members. This "National Association Membership" (see category 2 below for the application of a new National Association as a memebr of FIMS) is offered at a very low cost per member per annum to such an association.

If your National Associations wishes to enquire about this option, the President or Secretary of your National Association should contact the FIMS Secretary General, Prof Fabio Pigozzi, (Email: fabio.pigozzi@iusm.it) to receive the necessary application forms and further details.
FIMS National Association (country) membership
Any country with a National Sports Medicine Association may apply for National Association membership to FIMS. The details of the requirements for a country to become a member of FIMS are described in detail in Article 06 of the FIMS statutes. Any enquiries by a potential new National Association must be directed to the FIMS Secretary General, Prof Fabio Pigozzi, (Email: fabio.pigozzi@iusm.it)
FIMS Continental or multinational Association membership
Any group of countries, typically a continent or region with their own National Sports Medicine Association members, may apply for Continental or multinational Association membership to FIMS. The details of the requirements for a continent or region become a member of FIMS in this category are obtainable from the FIMS Secretary General, Prof Fabio Pigozzi, (Email: fabio.pigozzi@iusm.it)
FIMS Institutional / Library membership
FIMS is an organization that has substantial resources, in particular it's own journal the ISMJ) that it wishes to share with institutions and libraries. Any institution or library that wishes to apply to FIMS for membership can do so. (Click here to apply on line for FIMS institutional membership now).

FIMS fellowship
FIMS recognizes excellence and dedication to Sports Medicine by it's individual members. Therefore, a special category of membership in the form of a FIMS Fellowship (FFIMS) has been established. The FIMS Fellowship membership category is restricted. There ar two types of FIMS Fellows.
Honorary FIMS Fellows:
Honorary Fellows are individuals that have been nominated by their peers for outstanding service and commitment to FIMS. This Fellowship category is not open to application - only by noimination. If you wish to nominate an individual in this category please contact the FIMS Secretary General, Prof Fabio Pigozzi, (Email: fabio.pigozzi@iusm.it).
FIMS Fellows:
FIMS Fellowship will only offered to FIMS individual members who fullfill specific criteria and who have successfully applied and then undergone a peer revier process.
