The Fédération Internationale de Médecine du Sport (FIMS)/International Federation of Sports Medicine is
an international organisation comprised of individual members, national associations, and multinational groups, with a common involvement with sports medicine on all continents.
FIMS aims primarily to promote the study and development of sports medicine throughout the world, and to assist athletes in achieving optimal
performance by maximising their genetic potential, health, nutrition, and high-quality medical care and training.
Announcement: XXXI FIMS World Congress 2010 in San Juan, Puerto Rico
It is with great pleasure to officially announce that the International Federation of Sports Medicine will convene at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico during the period of May 19-22, 2010 for the XXXI FIMS World Congress. The Congress will also be the official scientific activity of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Games. An exciting scientific program will be combined with networking and social events for our international guests.
Puerto Rico has a history of sports and before the arrival of Christopher Columbus the Taíno Indians, Puerto Rico’s indigenous people, played several games as part of ceremonies and as recreational activities. In recent years Puerto Rico has grown as an international destination for sporting events and garnered a reputation for hosting world class competitions.
San Juan, "the walled city," combines old world aesthetics with modern urbanization and in doing so has created a dynamic center for economic, social, and cultural growth. It has an abundance of cultural wealth with numerous artists in music, art, and literature. Additional attractions such as the rain forest will make your visit unique.

XXXII FIMS World Congress 2012 in Rome
We have the pleasure to officially announce that the Italian Federation of Sports Medicine (FMSI) will organise in the city of Rome in 2012 the XXXII FIMS World Congress of Sports Medicine.
It is universally known that Rome is a place of great traditions, where sports and culture have gone hand in hand for some 3,000 years. It is said “Rome, caput mundi”, and indeed it is one of the world’s greatest cultural and spiritual centres. It is a modern capital, where past and present, sacred and profane, culture and leisure, harmoniously combine in a unique blend, that to many conveys the flavour of the sacredness, and yet the sweetness of life.
With regard to our Federation, the Italian Federation of Sports Medicine is known to be as one the first Associations of Sports Medicine borne in Europe. Next year it will celebrate its 80th year since its foundation (1929). From many years we are very active in the organisation of International Congresses and for having hosted many sports events, and we will be pleased to have this new opportunity to welcome our Colleagues from all around the world in our marvellous city.
