Executive Committee Meeting of the European Federation of Sports Medicine and International Symposium on Physical Activity Promotion in Riga

The Executive Committee Meeting of the European Federation of Sports Medicine (EFSMA), chaired by Prof. Maurizio Casasco, was held in Riga on 25 April 2026. The meeting was attended by Prof. Fabio Pigozzi, President of FIMS – the International Federation of Sports Medicine, together with the FIMS Vice President, Prof. Bachl, EFSMA Honorary President.

In conjunction with this meeting, the International Symposium "Global Alliance for Physical Activity – Riga 2026" took place on 24 April 2026. The symposium was hosted by the Latvian Association of Sports Medicine, under the leadership of its President, Prof. Sandra Rozenstoka, who also serves as Secretary General of EFSMA. Prof. Pigozzi and Prof. Bachl participated as speakers, highlighting the strong alignment and shared commitment of European and global sports medicine organizations to the advancement of health through physical activity.

The event also marked the official European launch of the newly published "FIMS Sports Physician Handbook", which was received with great enthusiasm by participants. The handbook represents a key reference resource for sports and exercise medicine professionals worldwide.

Together, these initiatives reaffirm the strategic role of sports and exercise medicine in shaping evidence based public health policies and in strengthening international cooperation to address physical inactivity as a major global health challenge.
