09/03/2012 - 10/03/2012 - International Congress on Cartilage Repair of the Ankle Location: Dublin, (Ireland)

About the CongressOverview:
There is currently no consensus on the optimal treatment strategies for osteochondral lesions of the talus. Typically, arthroscopic microdrilling is performed as a first line procedure in smaller lesions, with restorative techniques such as autologous osteochondral transplantation or other cell-based techniques reserved for larger lesions or after failed primary procedures. Cartilage repair, a treatment for osteochondral lesions, is not fully understood due to a lack of level-1 clinical studies which can provide evidence-based guidelines for using cartilage repair as clinical treatment for osteochondral lesions. This activity will gather experts in the field cartilage repair surgery in the ankle to discuss future strategic guidelines for using cartilage repair as a clinical treatment for osteochondral lesions of the ankle joint.

Target Audience:
This activity is targeted to specialty physicians in foot and ankle, orthopaedic surgeons, residents and fellows.

Accreditation:
Hospital for Special Surgery is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation:
Hospital for Special Surgery designates this live activity for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Highlights:
The first day of the congress (Friday, March 9) will consist of lectures and discussion on specific topics within cartilage repair surgery of the ankle, as well as interesting and related topics from special guest speakers. These lectures will serve as the basis for discussion on the second day. The second day of the congress (Saturday, March 10) will begin with a closed meeting of all faculty members to debate and discuss the controversies highlighted in the previous day. An open meeting with all participants will then follow with interesting case discussions and presentation of the current concepts and treatment guidelines.

The recommendations and guidelines set forth during the meeting by the faculty members will be published after the meeting. The material in these publications will fall into three main categories: 1) Diagnostic strategy, 2) Treatment Strategy, and 3) Outcome Measurement. Some examples of topics to be discussed at the congress: What is the current evidence for the use of biological augmentation? When is it appropriate to obtain an MRI for chondral injury after ankle sprain? When is it appropriate to perform diagnostic arthroscopy for chondral injury after ankle fracture? And many others!

21/04/2012 - 22/04/2012 - Football Medicine Strategies for Knee Injuries’ Location: Stamford Bridge Stadium, London (UK)

Football Medicine Strategies for Knee Injuries

The Isokinetic FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence is proud to announce that the 2012 Football Medicine Conference will take place at Stamford Bridge Stadium, London, over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of April.

This decision marks an exciting shift in the history of the International Conference on Sports Rehabilitation and Traumatology, having previously been held in Bologna, Italy, for the past 20 years.

With this exciting news, we can also announce the title of the conference 'Football Medicine Strategies for Knee Injuries'.

Injuries to the knee are among the most common sports-related injuries, with incidence rates in football particularly high. For this reason we have designed a conference which tackles common challenges presented to football players and their support teams.

The 2012 International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS 2012)July 19-24th 2012, SECC Glasgow

Deadline for submission extended - Submit your abstract here.

We have received over 1,200 abstracts from all over the world and are looking forward to what is shaping up to be an exciting programme full of diverse, interesting research in sport, physical education, exercise, physical activity and sports medicine. In response to many requests to accept late submissions, we have decided to extend the abstract deadline to 1 December 2011.

We invite you to submit an abstract to ICSEMIS 2012 and hope that you can be a part of this truly global sport science convention, the largest of its type to take place in the UK.

Organised and owned by the IOC, IPC, ICSSPE and FIMS; ICSEMIS replaces and expands the scope of the former four-yearly Congresses that were so familiar to many scientists and academics in sport. It will be uniquely positioned to take full advantage of the world's attention that will focus on the UK in July 2012. The Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games will take place on 27 July just after the Convention ends and we expect many Convention delegates to attend both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We expect over 2,000 delegates from every professional sector and academic discipline associated with sport, physical education, exercise, physical activity and sports medicine.

Keynote presentations will be inter-weaved with over 100 parallel sessions and 1000's of free communications to provide a unique multi-disciplinary insight into the broad spectrum of sport and exercise related studies.
